Prepare yourself: it’s dark outside, but even in the murkiest shadows, life goes on. We find ourselves in blue and yellow, But on the next day, on the plane to Santorini or Cascais, Because even during war, life relentlessly goes on. When we stand outside in April rain, revolting in peace for more peace, Demanding peaceful peace and quiet, We remind ourselves to always remember –– But April is the cruelest month, And history has always been, And always will be, gruesome repetition. So, one month later, life relentlessly goes on. Like ghosts, the good folks disappear, Their bodies crumbling in the streets, We’re looking back like Orpheus, But at the same time, Someone, someplace else, Spilt coffee in the office, Mopped it up, and life goes on. “Hear, hear, she got knocked up, Her brother’s friend got married”, they said. They know it all, They know what’s best, But the next day, We all wake up and read the news, And once again, the world seems so pathetic. Yes, we’re all shaken with fear, Watching grown babies, Solving conflicts they started. When we’re staring into tiny screens, The heads of nations, Oligarchs and right-wing politicians, They share the same flawed ambitions: In unity against sanity. Three missed calls, going straight to voicemail, I left a heartbroken message, Remembering things I never meant, Sounding too apologetic, I’m looking back like Orpheus, Can’t let those sleeping dogs lie, can I? But very soon my friends will know, You’ve already moved on Because life always goes on. © Elena Natroshvili IG: 16minutepoetry
