I hung my hopes onto the wish tree
In the trunk’s cool shadow,
Sparkling blue, bright and yellow
I felt the autumn breeze,
Your leaves brushing against me.
I flung my arms around el árbol de los sueños,
“Remember when we were pequeños?”
I left my thoughts at the wish tree,
In the courtyard, behind the monastery,
I stuck a coin into the limbs of your wrinkly, old body
Falling to your drenched feet,
“Your majesty”, a mandala of desires indeed.
Fabrics on fabrics,
Red, white and green
Garments touching garments
Rich colours unseen.
As years passed by, I was taken by grief:
I stumbled upon your roots,
But they had cut down our hopes and dreams.
